In the hallway after a dinner party, thinking herself unobserved,
screenwriter Philip Dunne watched as she twirled a large lavender
cape- going “V-R-R-R-O-O-O-M-M-M!" as though she was a toreador! It
was fascinating to see the was she sort of commanded the was she
walked; her boldness about presented herself. And yet I always had
the feeling she was saying. “Here’s little Betty- here she is,a big
movie star and a glamour girl. It can’t really be me!”
